What is Renuva?
Renuva is an injectable treatment that is used to increase volume to targeted areas, but is different from the dermal fillers you are probably familiar with. Dermal fillers commonly used to add volume are made from hyaluronic acid, or HA. HA is a protein found naturally in the body, and it attracts water molecules. This is why areas where hyaluronic acid is injected, whether they are wrinkles, cheeks, lips, or other areas, appear to plump after treatment. Over time, the hyaluronic acid in dermal fillers is absorbed and metabolized by the body. This means that treatments need to be repeated for results to last.
Renuva is different because it works more like a fat transfer procedure to add volume to specific areas of the face and body. Renuva is made from fat harvested from a donor. When injected, Renuva creates a framework for your own fat cells and collagen to grow over time. Renuva as a Fat Grafting Alternative
Renuva is an excellent alternative to traditional fat grafting for many of our patients. During fat grafting, fat is harvested from the patient’s body through liposuction, then purified and injected into areas where increased volume is desired. Fat transfer is great for patients who desire a significant increase in volume, as in the case of the Brazilian Butt Lift. However, patients who undergo this treatment need to have enough fat to harvest to make the graft effective.
Renuva is ideal for patients who don’t need large volume transfers, or for patients who are naturally thin and lack good areas to harvest fat for a traditional fat transfer. The fat in Renuva is harvested from human donors and preserved, so some patients like to think of Renuva as an “off-the-shelf” alternative to the fat transfer procedure—without surgery and with little to no downtime.

Preparing for Renuva
There is nothing you need to do to prepare for your Renuvia injections. When you come to our med spa for a consultation, your provider will assess your concerns and goals and help you decide whether Renuva is the right treatment for you.
Renuva Injections
Renuva injections are the same as other dermal filler injections. First, your skin will be cleansed and a numbing cream will be applied. Then you will simply recline comfortably as your practitioner injects Renuva into the treatment areas.
