From the Front Desk: How I Gave Up Extensions for Latisse

Monday July 17, 2017 | Latisse

Who doesn’t want longer, thicker, more luxurious lashes without having to layer on the mascara? It’s summer time, and I for one do not like the look of mascara running down my face when I get out of the ocean or when I lay on the beach too long and make the mistake of wiping the sweat from eyes.

Having been an eyelash curling, fake lash wearing consumer of the latest and greatest mascara that promises me the lashes of my dreams for most of my life, obviously I was all too excited when I found out about eyelash extensions.

Eyelash extensions can run anywhere between $200-$500 depending on where you go and take about two to three precious hours of your time to have them put in. They are to last about 3-4 weeks, but you may have to go back to get them “filled” in 2 weeks which will take another hour and another $100.

After I was finished laying down and trying not to fidget for two hours I sat up and saw full lashes that were pretty scraggly and then came the brushing. Yes, you have to brush these lashes like you brush the hair on your head unless you want tarantula lashes. You are also not to use any make up remover with oil because it’ll remove the lashes, so I went out and bought new products in addition to the pretty penny I had just spent to have them put in. I found myself in constant worry that I would accidentally rub my eyes (I wear contacts and the second I take them out I cannot wait to rub my eyes). I worried even when I slept. Did I sleep on my face to hard? Am I going to wake up to see my precious lashes on my pillow? The lashes were beautiful but too much upkeep and time consuming on top of everything going on in daily life.

Now, eyelash extension-less I resorted back to my eyelash curling, newest mascara wearing ways – until one morning when my favorite eyelash curler betrayed me. Before work I quickly curled my lashes, and as I went to release my curl I realized I had just chopped half of them off. So, you accidentally ripped out your lashes what are you to do?

Panicked, I went into work and showed my co-workers my barely measurable lashes, and without a bat of their luscious lashes I was pointed to a 5ml box of wonder, Latisse. I can grow my lashes longer, darker and thicker? Where had this been my whole life? I went home and watched a quick video online of how to apply Latisse and started using it that night after I washed my face and waited for the magic. For Latisse to work you do need to apply it every night. If you miss a night that’s fine it happens – just apply it the following night. At week 4 I started to see a change, they were in fact getting longer and thicker. Patience is key and by week 16 they were luscious, longer and darker as promised. I woke up and didn’t feel the need to put on mascara.

Latisse comes in a 5ml bottle which is $179 and lasts 16 weeks. It is to be used every night after you wash your face and takes less than a minute to apply. Latisse is also part of the Brilliant Distinctions program which means you can get points that equate to coupons that you can use towards your purchase of Latisse. I could not be happier with my results and recommend Latisse to everyone I know.
