Botox Vs. Dysport
Trusted Brands
Like Xerox or Kleenex, Botox is the brand name that most people associate with injections to treat frown lines and crows feet. But while Botox was the first drug approved for these treatments, it is no longer the only option.
Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat frown lines — the wrinkles between the eyebrows sometimes called the “11’s” — in 2002. In 2009, a competitor, Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) was approved for the same use. Today Botox and Dysport combined account for over 3 million injections every year.
Brand Equality
Dysport and Botox are equally affective and offer the same great results. They do have some differences. The treatment units are different between the two, (but the cost to treat an area is the same.) Some studies suggest that Dysport starts to act quicker than Botox, but it hasn’t been clinically verified to act any quicker. Another difference is that Dysport tends to spread more than Botox. This not a plus or a minus, but some people prefer they way one feels over the other.
